16And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'
When I was in your age, I liked a novel “How much land a man need?” which was written by Tolstoy. In Russia, long time a go there lived a farmer whose name was “Pahom”. He rented land from a rich man, thus, after harvest he had to pay for the rent of the land. In doing so, he wanted to have his own land so much.
One cold day, he screamed “If I can have my land, I will sell even my soul.” And a devil was sleeping in his fireplace, he heard Pahom’s screaming. “Ho, if he gets land, he sells his soul?”
A few months later, there came a stranger and he told Pahom that in the north area, if one pays only a little money, he can get the land as much as he needs. It was a gospel to Pahom. Thus, he went to that area and it was true.
He was so excited. After coming back to home, he prepared to go back to that area. And the rule of gaining the land was so simple. When the sun rises he starts and marks his area with sticks and holes. And he must come back before the sun set. If he doesn’t come back until sunset, everything is in vain.
So when the sun was rising, on a hill, many crowd gathered to see his work. Pahom was in a hurry. He wanted to have more and more land. So without having a break, he worked and worked. He was very tired, but it didn’t matter. And then it was time to get back. But the front filed was so amazing, thus he marked even that area.
The sun was going down. And people thought that Pahom would fail. But just a few second before the sunset, he came back and shouted “Everything is mine!” and then he fell down and he never woke up again. He died of overwork. So when he was buried only very small land was necessary.
–My uncle’s death and the feeling of vacancy when I was 18 years old.-
When we see today’s text, a rich man harvested a lot of crops. There was not an enough place to store his crops. Thus, he planned to build a larger storage house and enjoy his life. But Jesus asks us “But if God plans to bring his life back, to where such a big possession will be given?”
Like this, in our life, all of us have our dream which is related to money. But we also should know that everything comes from and God also can bring back what he gave to us. Thus the ownership belongs to God not us. We are just managers of God’s possession.
Many teenagers study hard to succeed in their life. But living is better than success. Anyhow, God also knows that we need money and social success. He is also ready to give such things to us. But there is an order. It is seeking God’s intention and his kingdom before we seek others. If we seek God’s intention and kingdom, other things will be added on that. God wants us to be happy, but he also wants us to live in the way which is in accordance with God’ will. We should be recognizable.
I hope all you come to realize who leads your life. As manager, when we are faithful to God, the blessing from God is yours.
